What a crazy 3 months….

NOTE: this post is going up long after it was written- as of today (Jan 6, 2014) I will have started my final semester of my undergraduate degree!

This semester at university went by in a flash. I honestly haven’t even lifted my head up until just this last week.

For those wondering: I’m in my final year (fourth) of an undergraduate degree with a major in biology (with a specialization in life science) and a minor in psychology. This last semester was full of biology courses, labs and even a research course that offered a great opportunity to work in a lab and study natural products and prostate cancer! How cool is that?! After writing my last exam and handing in my final research manuscript, I’ve been content just to sit around and be lazy- but alas, I had to finish my Christmas shopping first!

Today I wanted to share some of my empties from the last little bit. If you’ve seen the previous “empties” posts I’ve written (also titled “Quick Fire Reviews”) you may recognize a few of these products- although, some of them are new!

I’ll start with hair care. The item on the left is the Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo. This is the only dry shampoo that I will use- everything else just make my hair feel even more dirty. The scent is nice and it really keeps my fine hair from looking too greasy and oily though out the day.
The second item is the Live Clean Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo– again this is a fantastic product. I have fine hair- so any little bit of product build up makes my hair look super flat and greasy. This shampoo is gentle enough to be used on a daily basis- however, I probably used it every other day because I liked it so much and didn’t want to use it all up! It’s fairly inexpensive if you can find it on sale, and it lasted me quite a long while. If you have fine hair, or hair that just tends to be more oily, I would definitely suggest trying this product! It also smells faintly of apples- which is great!
On to makeup products that I’ve finished… On the left is the Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie that I love so much. What a fantastic color- I suggest it to so many people because it looks great on all skin tones! This is the second or third tube of this lipstick that I’ve finished, and although I love it, I think I’m going to wait to repurchase until I finish off some of my other lip products! Next is the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray. This is nice to have, but I really don’t find that it keeps my skin from getting oily or that it helps my makeup last any longer…I much prefer the All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray…but this held me over until I was able to get my hands on a bottle of All Nighter. Next is a deluxe sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish original primer. I’m not in love with Smashbox products- as they have yet to wow me…so I liked this, but I doubt I will repurchase the full size. Finally, my least favourite product of the bunch. Fresh Sugar lip gloss. I received this as a “birthday gift” from Sephora last year- and I didn’t like it at all. It smells awful, is thick and way too goopy and just didn’t impress me at all. Oh well, at least it was a gift and not something that I had purchased in full size!
On to skincare…I’ve really been on a skincare kick for the last little while and these are some products that I’ve been trying out. Vichy Eau Thermale Spring water. This is a great product to have around for cuts and scrapes and just to have around the house. I can’t tell you how many times this has come in handy for a rash or a cut- it’s just an amazing product. I will forever repurchase this thermal water. Balèa Radiance Toner. I picked this item up because it was on sale (and as I’ve since found out, clearance- as it’s been discontinued). I have never been so impressed by a toner before. It helped to control oils on my skin while keeping it moisturized! If I could, I would continue to purchase this! Lancôme Bi-Facil eye makeup remover. Love it. I wouldn’t purchase it, but I love getting it in GWPs. In the back is a package from the Target brand makeup remover wipes. They were cheap- but nice to have around for those lazy nights! Finally, there is a bottle of the St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub…love it! I’m trying out some new exfoliators, but this is definitely a holy grail product for me.
So, that’s it for my empties! Hope you enjoyed!

Plus Size OOTD: Today I’m a Walking Billboard For…

…Gap Inc. No, I haven’t been sponsored- but I did go shopping! During my one day off this week, I was surfing the net looking for some new summer clothing- as I know most of it goes on sale this time of the year (and because I don’t spend enough time outside, I don’t usually buy a lot of summer clothing). I’ve decided that I really like wearing dresses though, so I went to Old Navy’s website and saw that they were having a 30% off everything sale.. and you know me- I LOVE SALES, so I jumped in my car and drove to the store to have a look- and let me tell you. I. GOT. SOME. DEALS. About 45 minutes after I arrived, I left the store with a new pair of sandals, two shirts, and a cardigan for $50. Craziness. The shirt that I am wearing is one from ON and the other one I got is the same style in a plain white color. I really liked the relaxed, slouchy look. After I left ON, I travelled on to our Gap Outlet.

In my small town (read: island), we don’t have an actual Gap store- just an outlet that is still overpriced- where I found this great pair of capris. These weren’t as close to a bargain as the stuff I found at ON, but in the short time I’ve been wearing these, I can see why Gap has become so famous for their jeans. From the second I put them on, I felt like they were my old, comfy jeans that had been around for 50 years. They fit very similar to a boyfriend jean- very loose around the hips and calves (although, I think they are just straight cut). This is the first pair of pants that I’ve had that have had any type of distressing on them as it usually isn’t my style, but I do really like them! I also like that they are very relaxed looking but could also be dressed up with a fitted top and some heels.

When deciding what to wear on my feet I had originally decided on the wedged sandals that I purchased at ON, but eventually decided to go for the flat sandals as I was just going out to have my brows waxed and didn’t see the need to wear heels for that. My jewellery was also very simple- a ring that my parents gave me when I turned 16 and some old earrings that I found lying around.

Top: Old Navy
Bottoms: Gap Outlet
Sandals: Alfred Sung (last season)

Note: I am not by any means a fashion guru- I’m actually a very boring dresser, but I felt very comfortable and relaxed in my outfit today so I decided to share it with you!
